I hardly know where to start. But I have to warn you, this will be a picture spam post. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Such great shots in this episode. And thanks to Global (the network it airs in Canada on) all logo-free.

But as always, let’s start at the beginning. And this time we start right in the middle of a chase. Unfortunately not with Five-0, but with these guys.

If you like that show, good for you. But I couldn’t care less. πŸ˜‰ And thankfully they only had about two minutes and they were gone.

Dead girl and roll credits.

318005

Aw, they are doing it again showing off the beauty of Hawaii. I actually love these scenes. Of course we zoom in to another beauty of Hawaii. LOL Okay, I’ll admit, I’m a bit fangirly during this post. Hey, I’m allowed to ‘fangirl’ once in a while. Okay, we zoom in to Steve and his mom. I must say these were great scenes, and it looked like they were slowly getting closer together. Well, that won’t last long. But we come to that. Let’s just enjoy the scenery for a moment. And can I just say that was a waste of a perfectly good pair of shorts. Why put the man in shorts when we don’t see the legs? Camera guy, what was up with that?! πŸ˜‰

Now we have a dead girl fallen from her own balcony. That could have any kind of reasons. Burglary gone wrong, abusive boyfriend, suicide. Who knows? Question here. Who decides which case Five-0 gets involved in? For example why were they called into this one? What about HPD’s homicide department, I remember Steve telling the Governor that they do have one. A pretty good one were his words. So who is responsible for bringing Five-0 in? Can’t be the Governor. I mean, really, he doesn’t have time to sit at his desk and look at crimes and think, huh, that could be a nice case for Five-0. Sure, sometimes HPD asks for help, sometimes the Governor does involve them, and I’m sure they are always involved in major crimes like kidnapping. But this? Kind of strange, don’t you think?

Okay, enough rambling, back to the crime. Five-0 arrives and doing their thing.

First suspect, the boyfriend. Well, it’s pretty clear that he didn’t kill her. I actually had to laugh a little at his ridiculously baggy clothes. Who the heck was dressing him?

Uh, Max, Blue Man Group? That was pretty cool, even though Steve, the science guy, looked a little skeptical. Which I can completely understand. I didn’t quite get it either. First he paints the whole body blue to find a tiny puncture mark, and then he sprays a little water (or whatever it was) on just the right place to find said mark? Ok-ay. Not gonna question Max, of course. Now we know that she was drugged and indeed murdered.

Did you notice that the timeframe fit the airing of the episode? Chin said she had a parking ticket from yesterday in her pocket. March 17. The day before this episode aired. Just saying.

Okay, some scenes with the girls were funny, but I could do with a lot less roller derby scenes. But since men like to look at something too, from time to time, guess they had their fun with this.

Seriously? I need to go back to practice? Steve, arrest him right there on the spot. Come on, he’s your guy! Could you be any more suspicious than the coach? Ugh.

This is one of the best team-scenes of the whole show. I absolutely loved it. Danny made me snort with laughter. Skinny Mini Miller! Oh my goodness. And I was almost giggling with delight when Steve told about Cath’s dad showing him pictures of Cath as a teenager. Awww. That means Steve was at her parent’s house, and they obviously approve of him. I mean you don’t show pictures of your little girl to just any guy, and I’m sure Cath wouldn’t bring any guy home. This little information practically screams for a story. And will come in handy for future reference. It’s the tiny little things like these that I absolutely love about Five-0. This information is pure gold.

But back to the scene. I loved it how Cath tried to get out of this assignment, and how the other four gleefully tried to get her to do it. And I think it was great that Kono did not go undercover. I mean, really people, get real. Kono had been all over the news just a year ago. Everyone on the island knows her. Five-0 is a high profile Police force with just four people on it. And they get press coverage all the time. None of them can do any undercover work. I thought it was stupid of people demanding that Kono should do it. I think she is out of the game for good, as are the other three.

So here are the pics to this absolute glorious scene.

I must confess I was not very interested in the try-outs. Frankly, I don’t get this sport, or find it in any way even remotely interesting. So, let’s just skip through it.

But before we do that I like to talk about a little pet peeve of mine. I can’t stand it when especially on TV shows helmets are worn wrong. Really guys, get it right. This is important! You have any idea how many children, and adults, die because they weren’t wearing a helmet? Or if they did, they did it wrong? Put your damn helmet on right when you’re riding a bike, or skating. Make sure that it is not just sitting loosely on your head. It needs to really fit and sit snuggly. Or it won’t protect you at all.

People, especially kids see this and think it’s cool to keep your helmet loose. It’s NOT. It’s stupid and dangerous. Okay, all you moms/dads and grannies out there, take a look at your kids helmets.

Now this was the lesson of the day. πŸ˜‰

Poor Cath. She told them she couldn’t do it. But were they listening? No. She comes in second. I loved that. Steve not so much. πŸ˜‰

Oh, and btw, did Alex have some fun again and looked at the camera?

Image114

I don’t know who it was, but surely not Wo Fat. Maybe it was one of his men, but not the man himself. This was a nice fight. What is it with the McGarretts and stolen boxes? First Steve’s champ box, and now this one. They really should protect their stuff better. And Doris, really, you are complaining that Steve’s security system was a joke, and now someone is breaking into your house?

I must confess I don’t quite understand the whole mess with Doris. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Doris said she killed Wo Fat’s father some twenty years ago. And then she had to go into hiding because Wo Fat found out and she needed to protect her family. (Which in my eyes is just bullshit.) But at the same time Wo Fat only knew that Shelburne killed his father, but had NO idea who that was. So, why is Doris lying about her reasons to fake her death? It was surely not because of Wo Fat. And I highly doubt that Wo Fat was a man with great influence or power back then. On the contrary, he was still a ‘spy’ back then. We learned about that in one of the episodes.

This whole story has so many holes in it, if I tried to pull something like that, Cokie would have my tail.

But this was a nice action sequence and I always love it when the women, except for Kono, since she simply can’t pull it off, are able to defend themselves. Loved BAMF Catherine, and for sure loved Doris.

And again I’m going to skip the whole roller derby stuff. That was really not interesting for me, even though I think Cath did a great job.

Image126

I wished Steve and Chin would work together more often. They are great together. It’s a shame that we don’t see more of them. Maybe we could send Danny on a vacation to Jersey or something. Just a week or so. πŸ˜‰

Image127

And here we go again, another suspect in the blue room. I think the lighting was not that good this time, it was more green than blue. Or maybe it was because Steve wasn’t wearing blue.

And after that we have more roller derby. With Cath bonding with one of the other girls. Cath got a new hint and our three guys can investigate further. Good job, Cath. πŸ˜‰

I think the next scenes were not quite okay. There was no need to storm into the room like that and disturb the exam of the kid. I thought that was very odd. There simply was no reason to do that. And there for sure was no reason to call her Sugar Stixx. Danny, that was uncalled for. Other than that I liked the scenes, and we got a new insight into what might have gotten her (the dead girl) into trouble.

Where did the badge disappear to?

Image154

I was actually a bit surprised that Doris ended up in the hospital. I thought she would cover it up, and not tell anyone. But she obviously called HPD, and now she has to tell her son what happened. Who is not happy, and one can clearly see that he doesn’t believe a word she says. Good for you, Steve. One can practically feel that there might be a confrontation coming up soon.

Now we come to a scene I was waiting for ever since Catherine kept quiet about what happened with Mangosta. This confrontation was beautifully played. Very low key and one could feel the hurt and betrayal that Steve felt in that moment. But it was so great that Cath came right out when she thought that Mangosta might be involved in this robbery. She never even hesitated to tell him. I think that was really great.

How sad was it when Steve told her to go? Aw man. I think he did the only right thing, he was not able to talk about it at that moment, and before he would say something he or they would regret, he asked her to leave. He knew right then and there that he was not willing to risk their friendship, or their love, for a few harsh words about what she had done. Even totally hurt, Steve still kept his cool. Absolutely loved those scenes.

My only complaint about this episode would be about too much roller derby. Again we have girls rolling around in circles. πŸ˜‰ Not really interesting if you ask me.

Catherine again did her job and gave Five-0 the whole hard drive from the coach. Even though I would be interested in how she did that in that short a time and on a single flash drive. πŸ˜‰ But with that she cracked the case. The coach did it. Duh. I told you that half an hour ago.

We get a bit more roller derby, again. Then a nice little rescue by Catherine. And I would really like to know where she was hiding the gun.

And Steve and Danny are coming a bit late as the shining knights. But in the end they were just in time to make the arrest. Loved how worried Steve looked.

Now, I don’t know about you, but I think that was a beautiful funeral. If such a thing can be beautiful. And the speech was really moving, and actually fitting for Steve and Cath too.

Didn’t we all know it? Finally Steve is going to confront Doris. And what a great scene that was. Christine and Alex are great together. That was just great. And everyone who said Alex can’t act, well they are either blind or stupid. Probably both. Subtlety is the name of the game, and he is a master at that. What he can say with just a look, others need pages of text for. And will still not do what he can. Move you with a facial expression. But this scene was not even the best, it gets better a little later. πŸ˜‰

But now this scene. It was about damn time that Steve confronted Doris, and called her on her lies. I think he kept quiet because he really wanted to give their relationship a chance. But involving Catherine, trying to manipulate her, that was just too much. Steve would never tolerate anything like that. Obviously Doris doesn’t know her son very well. That little maneuver backfired big time.

But I have to give her credit for saying that Catherine never meant to hurt him, and that she loves him. I don’t believe she didn’t do it so not to hurt him. Her motives were pure selfish. I think. You can never be sure with her. And I have no idea what the phone call meant. But I guess we will see. Or not. You never know what Peter Lenkov is thinking. I was a little surprised that she actually told him about the film. Or maybe that wasn’t what was in the box at all. And why would the film be worth any protection for her. From who? The CIA? That doesn’t make any sense. But as I said earlier this whole Shelburne thing doesn’t make sense.

Can I make a wish? Can we please put Steve more often in black? That really suits him.

Now we come to THE scene. For me this is one of the best scenes of the whole series. I loved the music, I loved the setting, and I loved that there were not more than two sentences spoken. What a great wonderful reconciliation. That was perfectly played.

I have read that some people thought that Steve would not forgive like that. I have no idea why anyone would think that. They obviously don’t know Steve at all. Steve never showed signs that he is one to hold a grudge. Yes, he said he doesn’t like to be played, but Catherine didn’t do that. She kept the information from him because his mother asked her to do so as a favor. Catherine never did that to gain any personal advantage from it.

She never meant to misguide or betray him. She did it because she listened to his mother and thought she did the right thing. That was wrong, yes. She should have told him. She made a mistake. But that was it. A mistake. Not a betrayal or trying to play him.

Steve knows that. Because he knows Catherine. They love each other. And of course you forgive a mistake. You don’t wait days or weeks, or however long to forgive it. Catherine made a mistake she is terribly sorry for. What is there not to understand that Steve would forgive her? That man loves her. They just understand each other, they trust each other on a very deep level. They went through so much together in all the years they have known each other. You don’t throw that away because of a mistake.

I loved his reaction, and how he handled it. That was perfect and wonderful. And so Steve.

And can I just say that picture of Catherine standing at the water is just stunning.

Storyline: the crime of the week was entertaining even though I could have done with a little less roller derby. But they had a few interesting suspects, and the case unfolded logically. So, that was fine.

Action: Uh, well, was there any? Roller derby doesn’t count, but actually this episode didn’t need any action. It was more than exciting enough.

Fun factor: It doesn’t get better than trying to get Catherine to do their undercover work. That was absolutely perfect.

Awe-factor: Oh my goodness, where to even start. The scenes at the end did me in. That was brilliant. And also the confrontation. Aww.

Steve-Awesomeness: This was it. Steve for the win all the way.

Danny-bearableness: Loved him. ’nuff said.

Support group: Loved the team work on this one. No Kamekona, and that was a good thing.

Personal Enjoyment: This will be one of my favorite episodes so far. Simply because of Doris/Steve, Team/Catherine, Steve/Doris AND Steve/Catherine. An absolute A plus for me.

Here comes a reminder of what happened four long weeks ago just in time before the new episode airs this Monday.

3.17 Pa’ani | The Game

I was kind of surprised that this episode didn’t have much to do with the Pro Bowl Game. They were so heavily promoting it, that I thought the COTW revolved around it. But that was actually not the case. But that was just as well. I liked the personal football stuff even better. But let’s start at the beginning.

Seriously, I knew right from the start that this was not a real military operation. They were all running around like bunnies without cover. But it was a great action filled beginning of the ep, and that someone was really shot came as kind of a surprise. Mostly because I thought the crime would happen at the game, as I said earlier. My fault. πŸ˜‰

Before our boys go to the crime scene they meet with Kamekona to get their tickets to the game. We actually get a real treat in those scenes. Gray hair. Yeah! Could we please keep that? Could you please stop dying Alex’ hair? It looks so much better when his natural gray comes through. Anyway, the two boys got their tickets and of course have to argue about every little thing. I have my own little theory why we got part of this scene. I think the writers realized how bitchy Danny had become lately and that is why they threw in that ‘this’ is not fighting. I actually really liked it. I liked Steve’s surprised look that Kamekona would think they were fighting. When in his and Danny’s eyes they weren’t.

I loved Danny being a fangirl, cough, I mean… fanboy? LOL And I loved it even more how Steve made fun of him being a ‘Manning-fan’.

But as Daniel Dae Kim said they can be fanboys too.

317006

But I hope that at some point they will give us a real fight. Still waiting for that to happen. Okay, now they have their tickets and we can move on to the COTW.

We learn quite a lot in the next scenes. That Danny doesn’t understand how anyone would go to a tactical OPS game, no surprise there, Danny. That Steve was obviously shot with training ammunition, and that they can pack quite a punch. And that Steve thinks they should do such training for team building, even though it wouldn’t be much of a challenge. Yeah, I can just see Steve running circles around them. πŸ™‚

Of course we also learned a lot about the forensic work after the crime. Which I find fascinating, and I think it’s great that we see a little of the procedural stuff, but by far not as much as on other shows. I love crime shows, but only the crime stuff gets boring after a while. And in my eyes, a show like CSI, no matter which city, got old after two seasons. But that is just my opinion.

And can I just say that I’m really happy that Duke made it and is back on the force? So happy to see him again.

Okay, here is a little job for you. Please look at Steve and try to remember what he is wearing. Okay, you got that? Good, then let’s move on. We’re coming back to that. πŸ˜‰

317014

Seriously? They want us to believe in a murder suspect who is wearing a pale pink polo shirt? Really? Not gonna happen. But as always nice scenes in the blue room.

Please note that Steve gets a phone call from Chin at some point, telling him and Danny to come out to the office right away. Which they do.

You still remember what Steve was wearing since the beginning of the episode? Good. Did it look like this?

317022

No? Are you sure? Give it some time. πŸ™‚

I don’t know how I knew, but it was clear to me that they had just let their killer go.

So, this time it was Kono who went to see Max to get more information about the victim. And what he revealed was really interesting. One question though. Why didn’t any of his buddies realize that he was pretty much out of it? If the sedative was that strong even after twelve hours they should have realized that something was wrong. Right?

After getting the information about their victim the next step would be to follow his last steps. So, let’s go to a bar. Oh wait; better change the shirt for that. πŸ™‚

317027

Now came a scene I truly enjoyed. Catherine comes to surprise Steve at work. Yeah, I could get used to that. Not only because I like to see her more often, but I truly love how Steve lights up as soon as she is near. Heck, he even kissed her for everyone to see. That is just great, and I’m very happy with this development. Not to mention that the scene was very funny.

Poor Cath, I mean her idea to get tickets for the game and to go there with her boyfriend was really nice and all, but maybe she should have thought that Steve would go to a football game with his buddy? I heard a lot of people complaining that this scene and a later one, to which we will get later, was for the McDanno fans. I’m sorry, but I totally disagree.

Just think about it for a minute. Steve and Danny are best friends. I think it is completely logical that the two guys would want to go to the football game together. Not with a girlfriend. I mean, come on, get real. This is a guy’s event. You don’t go to the game with your girl. Of course Steve would have done that, if there would have been any plans like that. But now he had a prior engagement, and he had to honor that. It’s really simple, Danny had asked first.

I would have been disappointed if Steve would have broken it off and went with Cath. Sorry, but that is not how it should be. If you committed to one thing and then a better thing comes along, you can’t just break the first one off. Everyone should have learned that in Kindergarten. And I don’t understand why people complain about Steve going with Danny instead of Cath. Obviously they never learned this important lesson. Shame on them.

And I didn’t expect Danny to offer to step back either. This was their thing. They have probably talked about it for weeks. I think this whole scene is no big deal. Or that anyone is treating Cath not in the right way. Least of all Steve. He is totally sweet and apologetic about it.

Besides, it was clear that her seats must be really good, and those two boys would be green with envy pretty soon. πŸ™‚

Uh, and Danny, thank you for saying that they are dating, and they didn’t even deny it. That practically made my day.

And one more thing, before I will let this rest. Why did Cath need a peace offering for Steve? What did she do that we didn’t see? Any ideas?

Well, he actually didn’t change that much. Yeah, he got a bit older, but he still looks pretty much the same. If you don’t know who that is, then I guess you are not in my age group. LOL

I loved the following scenes. Steve desperately trying to keep Danny from talking, of course that would be impossible. So he has to listen to a story that he had to listen to countless times already. Poor Stevie.

They didn’t meet a lot of resistance when they questioned the bouncer. And he was actually really helpful. Now they can look at the killings from a totally different angle.

And here comes Kono again. I’m just wondering what Chin was doing in this episode. And why was she always out alone without a partner? The security guy was kind of refreshing.

Oh, and look, a high tech lock on the door, but Kono just opens it? This was also kind of strange.

I wonder if the writers really think Danny’s behavior (as a professional detective) is funny. Or cute or whatever. I’m sorry, I don’t think so at all. I can’t even count how many times over the course of the last three seasons Steve had to remind him to focus, or remind him that they were working on a case and he should act accordingly, or not embarrass himself while on the job. I think it is a shame that Danny is more and more written like a stupid sidekick. It is no secret that I don’t like Danny (or his portrayal by the actor) most of the time, but his character has great potential and they are wasting it. That is what makes me mostly mad about Danny’s character. But I must admit, Danny has his moments, but this was not one of them. We will come to that later though.

LOL – yeah, Steve, I have to agree with you. Instead of a fantasy championship winner he is a real life imbecile. Dungeons and Dragons for sports geeks. This was cracking me up. These two are just too good to be true. See, I do like Danny on occasion. But it is mostly because of Steve’s reactions and his sense of humor to Danny’s acts. I loved that cargument.

So, they guys are working late into the night. Question though, where the heck is Chin? Do they get a day off during a case? I mean, they obviously need to have time off, nobody can work 24/7, but his absence in this ep was kind of strange.

317060

There is one thing about Five-0 I don’t like. Oh, wow, there is something I don’t like. Yeah, there might be plenty at times, but it never is or was that important that I wouldn’t enjoy the show to the fullest. But the thing I’m talking about happened a few times now. I know it is most likely because of time restriction; after all they only have not even 45 minutes to tell their story. But I really don’t like it when they talk about a suspect and in the next scene he is sitting snuggly in the blue room. Or we don’t see the chase, but only the last tackle and arrest. That bothers me a little. But I guess that is my love for procedural speaking, and Five-0 is really not about that. As I said I can live with that.

Okay, I’ll admit these scenes were funny. Danny still can’t work the smart table. I like it that they keep his aversion to the technical stuff alive over the seasons. And no, that does not make him look stupid. Some people are just not meant to be tech geeks.

Hawaii really is stunningly beautiful. And I think the show does a great job to show us different views every week.

So, who would have thought that this murder was mostly about the insurance money? After all the twists and turns we finally found out what was going on.

Our two heroes to the rescue! But I’m pretty sure they imagined a slightly different outcome.

There was a lot of discussion about this episode weighting too heavily on the bromance factor. To give too much in to the McDannos out there. I don’t think so at all. Steve and Danny are best friends. Nothing less, but nothing more. I always have to smile a little about all the people who can’t accept that two male, or two female people can be in a deep friendship without wanting to jump the other person’s bones. That is the same as saying men and women can’t be friends without ending up in bed. I’m sorry, but that is not how the real world works. But if that thought, Steve and Danny together, floats your boat, be my guest. Nothing wrong with that. But in this show? That is not the case. No matter how much you like to interpret into it.

Anyway, I thought it was perfectly right and normal for Danny to give up his tickets to stay with his injured friend. That is what I expect from a partner and friend. It doesn’t matter that Steve’s injury was not that serious. My partner gets injured on the job? I’ll stick with him, no matter what. Huge points to Danny for doing just that. Missing out on meeting his idol because he had to wait for his friend getting fixed up. Kudos to you, Danny.

Thanks to Steve’s injury a lot of people were happily attending the football game.

And I have to say, I absolutely loved the hospital scenes. Okay, that is NOT how you fix a dislocated shoulder, but who cares. It was a great scene. And Danny in the waiting room? Awwww.

And I just knew it that Cath’s seats would be THE best in the house. LOL Loved to see her with Kono.

And now we finally come to the best scenes of the show. At least they were for me. That whole ending was incredibly cute. I loved how Steve was so eager to throw the football, and Danny wants it to make it his own decision, as if he wouldn’t want to catch the ball in an NFL stadium. LOL Those were really cute scenes. And Steve, don’t worry, I highly doubt you have any reason to be jealous.

If you want to know what happened after those scenes; you should read this. Cokie and I sat down and wrote a coda for this episode.

Kinipopo peku

Storyline: Well, the crime of the week wasn’t boring, but not that interesting either.

Action: Lots of action. Not necessarily with our heroes, but they even engaged in some kind of hand to hand. So, I guess no one can complain about a lack of action in this one.

Guest-Star: what guest stars? Oh, oh, almost forgot. Larry Manetti. Well, okay. It’s always the same with the guest stars for me; I don’t really care about them. I only want people who can play their specific part, I don’t care if they have a ‘name’ or not.

Fun factor: This was simply great. There was humor in almost every conversation and meeting. Loved it.

Awe-factor: The last scenes on the football field made up for a lot of crap from Danny lately. Β That was really cute.

Steve-Awesomeness: I just admire his patience and how he endures his buddy. How he is handling Danny always amazes me. I would have gone ballistic a long time ago.

Danny-bearableness: His behavior as a detective, ah well, not going into that again. But in this episode I didn’t cringe. His acts of friendship and kindness when Steve got injured and his behavior at the end won him a lot of points with me. So, yeah, I liked him in this one.

Support group: Where the heck was Chin? Not a fan of Kono, I only liked her at the end, but don’t listen to my opinion about her. I just don’t like her. And yes, that is a personal thing. πŸ˜‰ Kamekona gets overused in my eyes. He is great, but I don’t need him in every episode. It’s getting a bit too much. And I’m really dreading his helicopter thing. I truly hope he will not get a license, ever.

Personal Enjoyment: I really enjoyed this episode. All in all an A minus for me.

Random thoughts on 3.15

Sorry I’m late with this one.

Well, one thing is for sure, this episode was not as slow as the original. Even though it was pretty much the same, Five-0 had a very different feeling to it.

315001

Thanks to CBS and http://bookemdanno.net/ for this picture.

I don’t think it would be fair to compare these two shows. I’m sure Hawaii Five-0 back then was on top of their game, but today it is almost torture to watch an episode. I kind of remember watching the show as a kid, but I have no real recollection of it. I did watch a couple of episodes now just for fun, but I stayed away from this particular episode to avoid any spoilers. I think the show is very outdated, and their unnatural acting was ‘in’ back then, but today it is barely watchable. Actually, that has nothing to do with one show in particular, it’s the same with all those old shows. That said, I really don’t think that you can compare the modern version with the old one. The characters may have the same name, but that is where the similarity ends. And since this blog is clearly not about the old show, but about the totally hip, fun, and great modern version, let’s get right into it.

Check out the ‘star’ behind the hands. It’s a very inspiring story.

http://www.jasonkoger.com/

315002

He, or better his prosthetic hands were the stand-in for Peter Weller’s character Curt Stoner.

The episode starts with a funeral procession that is escorted by a police officer on a motorbike. If I remember correctly we never learned whose funeral it was.

315003

Parallel to that we see our killer walking to the spot from where he is going to take his first kill shot. Watching this I was wondering why on earth was he walking over hills and through the valleys to get to his spot? Why didn’t he simply drive there? As we could later see, the spot was accessible by car. That is not really logical, but was the same in the original version, only difference back then was that the scene in 1973 was really boring and loooooong. πŸ˜‰ Oh, and one more thing, this time the choice of music was far better, even though the ’73 version won an Emmy. I think it was unbearable to listen to. But, I guess that is a question of personal taste.

315004

After countless hills and what felt like miles of walking he finally reached his spot. While his target was still driving around. I must say they paid a great homage to the old show, some scenes where exactly the same. Great work.

Let’s have a little word about physics here. If you are driving a car in a forward direction, and it comes to a sudden stop, let’s say because it hits another car, or a wall, everything inside that car will move forward. The casket would also move forward; it would not be pushed out the back door. So if the car hits a brick wall, it stops. However, the passenger, or in this case the casket, will continue to move under conservation of momentum until a force stops him/it. I know it’s not really important, but something like that simply bugs me. You can’t just ignore the laws of physics.

315012

Now we can start the episode. We have a killer and a dead person. And not only any dead person, but a dead cop.

This will probably be the only episode that will have an English title. They even used the old yellow font.

315013

Okay, I have a question for you. When Steve met Danny at the crime scene, I got the feeling that he arrived there after Danny. He said ‘he heard it was cop that was shot’. So, I was looking for his truck, but it’s not there. He came there in the Camaro. Now my question, how did Danny get there, and why didn’t they drive together? AND why is Steve driving the Camaro without Danny? That scene might call for a ‘Fill in the blank’-story. πŸ˜‰

Anyway, Danny informs Steve that the killed officer was Ben Keoki, a bike cop on funeral detail. It was quite a shock for McGarrett to learn that the best friend of his father had been killed. And again we learn something about Steve. In season one he told us that he didn’t always live in the house on the beach as a child. He was talking about his ‘old neighborhood’ when he and Danny went to meet Mamo. And here he is saying that Keoki lived in the corner house of his block. He is obviously not talking about the beach house but about some kind of apartment.

By the way, Keoki was not a very good dead body; he had a lot of facial movement. πŸ˜‰

And as you can see there is a street leading to the spot from where Stoner took his shot. So, why not driving there? Why walking for miles over hills and through valleys, always in danger of being seen. I mean it’s not like he is very inconspicuous, with two prosthetic hands and a silver suitcase.

This doesn’t bode well for the investigation. It’s more than obvious that Keoki was the intended target. Of course that also gives them a lead. If someone went through such planning with even engraving the shell case, that means he left a trail behind. They only need to find it.

I must say I always like the scenes at HQ. It’s my favorite HQ of all crime shows I’m watching, and no, this has nothing to do with the actors or characters they are playing. I just really like Five-0’s HQ.

I just noticed something; don’t you also think Danny always looks like he is half asleep, even when he is listening intently?

And please look at Steve’s desk. Is that a seal on his desk? No, I’m not talking about Steve. Β Look at the bronze figure. It looks like a seal, or something like it.

I think the show did an amazing job with integrating the hands. Even though I highly doubt that engraving like that free hand style is possible. I did a lot of engraving, with a machine and free hand, and that is not as easy as they made it look like. And certainly not with prosthetic hands. The names looked really good, especially later the McGarrett ones. But no matter what, it gave a completely new meaning to the saying ‘a bullet with your name on it’.

And hello to Fong again. It’s great to see him so often, even though it almost feels like he has more screen time than Catherine lately.

What I didn’t like in this scene was Kono. Or rather what the writers put in her mouth. I thought it was kind of ridiculous that she told the expert how the shell case could help them. They have tech experts for that; they for sure don’t need Kono for it. I just wish they would give her something useful to do, this was not it.

I totally forgot lately, but here is another shot of Mr. Gates support of Five-0. Thank you Microsoft for investing into the show. I really mean that.

The meeting with the guy he set up to take the fall, and to get his next victim, was the only scene during the episode that I think was too long. I just think it was not necessary to show all that in such detail. And to put the rifle together was really not needed, but I guess the simply wanted to show the hands again.

After this, we get the show’s best cargument so far. At least, it was for me. As I said a few times before, I love the brooding Steve. I love it when he turns out the world, and you can practically see him thinking. And this time I loved it even more, because he shared his emotions with us. He told Danny what was eating him. About his guilt of not getting in touch with Keoki when he came back to the islands. Of his sadness about his childhood friend’s death.

This was something we can all relate to; we all had people in our lives that we wanted to get in touch with at some point, but never did. For whatever reasons.

Steve is right, time slips away, and before we know it, it is too late. I loved these scenes. It showed the vulnerable and very human Steve, and I really truly enjoy this side of him. We so rarely see it, but when we do it is always great.

Our boys get interrupted by a call from Kono, who tells them that HPD is in the middle of a shoot-out with a suspect. Of course, Steve and Danny need to be a part of that.

I must say I’m getting really miffed at the writers by now. They are writing Danny as a complete idiot. And even I’m getting tired of complaining about his stupid ranting. What the hell is his problem? Why do the writers let him complain that Steve takes the megaphone to tell the suspect to surrender his gun? Isn’t that police procedure? Steve is doing things by the book, and Danny is still complaining? I’m really sorry, that is just not funny or anything. I think that is simply stupid and makes Danny look like an idiot. Not that I have anything against that, mind you, but sometimes I feel they put stupid stuff in his mouth because they are running out of things he can and should complain about. This really pisses me off.

I think it was the right decision not to wait for SWAT. HPD told them that the area was not cleared yet, which means civilians could still be in harm’s way. The baddy was shooting like a mad man, so their job was it to end this as soon as possible. I think Steve took only a small calculated risk. There was a lot of cover, and not even to mention the back-up from HPD.

And if nothing else it will be a really nice drug bust.

I don’t think anyone believed that he was the sniper. As Steve said he couldn’t hit the side of a barn. So, question now is who set him up and why?

The why they will find out right away. I knew that he would die, but still I thought it was really sad.

MAX! For some reason, it feels like we haven’t seen Max in like forever. So glad he’s back, and has vital information about the shooter and the dead cop. He was surely not killed by a stray bullet, but was targeted. Just like Keoki.

And with the help of Fong and his laser thingy, they got the proof that this was a very cleverly planned killing. Their killer is not some stupid hot head. His careful patient planning makes him even more dangerous.

Ups, where did they suddenly come from? πŸ˜‰

315064

It for sure will not be easy to protect everyone who might be on the shooter’s list. For that they need to figure out the connection of the victims. Hopefully, they will figure that out, before Stoner can hit another cop.

I was very happy to see the Governor again; I wished we would see him on a regular basis. I truly like him. But seriously, what was he thinking? Telling Steve not to take it personally, and to keep it professionally. Of course they will all take it personally; their friends and colleagues were killed. But to tell Steve to keep it professional? I found that offensive. Steve never let the personal outrage, revenge or his feelings get in the way to do his job. He could have easily killed the killer of his father, but he didn’t. He arrested Hesse. He could have easily killed Wo Fat, but he didn’t. He arrested him. He never ever lost his cool. Why would he now? Maybe the Governor should take a second look at who Steve is and what he represents, and what kind of training he had. If he did, he could have saved his breath on this one. On the other hand, it gave us a really nice scene.

Uh oh!

You know, the shop owner was right. Danny is a nasty human being. Speaking his mind without thinking about the consequences. The minute he sat foot into the shop he was making nasty comments to Steve and to the shop owner. It doesn’t matter that he has a different opinion about guns, even though we don’t even know what Steve’s stand about guns in civilian’s hands is, Danny was nothing but nasty to them both. He should keep his opinions to himself and act professionally, but he is obviously not capable of that. And that is why I think he is not a good detective. Without Steve, he would not have gotten any information from the owner. Danny is simply an idiot.

But I think the show handled this issue about guns very well, without taking any side.

But I had to laugh at one point. Danny was talking about two real cops. Since when does he think Steve is a real cop? That is news to me, and I’m sure this comment will come back to him in some form.

And LOL about Steve. “Just ignore him.” Steve, is that what you are doing? Maybe you can teach me how to ignore Danny.

I don’t think the next scenes really fit our shooter. First of all, he was always planning very carefully. This time he didn’t know that there would be a witness disturbing him? I don’t buy that. And him being so close to his target, and missing? No way. Besides, all his shootings so far where from a greater distance, why would he suddenly change his MO? And fleeing the scene directly in the line of vision of Steve and Danny? Nope, this was not very well done.

But again, it gave us great scenes. πŸ™‚

We were robbed. Of some great scenes. Look at these two, they are clearly wet. Steve has wet clothes on, and Danny’s hair is still messed up and wet. They jumped into the harbor, and we didn’t see it. Not fair. πŸ˜‰

Now we learn who the shooter is and what happened to him. Hopefully, they won’t be too late for the others involved.

NO! Not Lukela. Don’t you dare let him die.

315096

Nice work, Max. Again, the science guy gives the crucial clue. I like that Five-0 has the CSU department involved but not as heavily as on CSI or even NCIS. I really like it that the show’s focus is mostly on the other aspects of a case.

I have just one tiny question. Why would the state of Hawaii give Stoner such expensive high tech prosthetic hands?

And this is Jason Koger as an extra.

315099

Getting into the end phase of the episode it is picking up speed. Finding out where he is hiding doesn’t take long, but of course he is gone when they get there.

Finding out who the next target is. You better duck!

And we will get a second shoot-out in this episode. Thinking back over the course of the seasons, I don’t think they ever used as many bullets as in this season.

To make one thing clear, of course I don’t want Steve to get hit. Well… πŸ˜‰ Anyway, this shootout was almost as bad as the one with Wo Fat. The Sniper had so many clear shots, and he was not able to even hit the car? Yeah, right.

Yeah, Danny, what’s the matter with you? This worked like clockwork. Perfect, flawless plan. Even your car got away without a scratch.

I loved the ending. Yeah, it might be a bit cheesy, but I’m so happy that Steve finally found some closure. Sure, Wo Fat is still on the run, but he brought the man who actually pulled the trigger to justice. And he caught Wo Fat once, I’m sure he will do it again. And more importantly, his dad told him it was alright. That he is proud of him.

It doesn’t even matter if it was just in his head, or if there was something real about it. Steve found closure; that is all that matters. And that is what I loved about it. He made his peace with his dad.

Thank you Peter Lenkov for that. And for this wonderful emotional scene.

I thought last week’s ending was great, but this one was even better.

So, there is really not much left, just the verdict.

Storyline: I thought it was great how they integrated the past with the present. A job really well done.

Action: Except for again no hand to hand, which I’m still waiting for, this was great. Lots of action, and so very well done.

Awe-factor: I think the last scenes are what this category was made for. That was so wonderful. So emotional and just… perfect.

Steve-Awesomeness: Do I even need to say anything?

Danny-bearableness: Sorry, but Danny again was almost unbearable to watch. Some scenes I really liked, but mostly I wished the sniper would shut him up. No, seriously, I think the writers need to take a really good look at what they are doing to his character. He was kind of funny in the beginning, but now he is only a nastily bitching idiot.

Support group: Fong, Max and Duke are great, and I’m happy to have them. But I’m still missing Catherine. I know she will be back today actually, but I want to see more of her.

Personal Enjoyment: This was one hell of an episode. One that will make it into my top 10 easily. I loved it from start to finish. A + for sure.
