Season 2 poll – part 4

Season 2 – Episode 16 – 19

Here you go; the next 4 episodes for your consideration.

Credits for the pictures to CBS and as credited on the pics. Again big thanks has to go to http://www.mycoven.com for her great work on the screenshots. If there is no credit on the picture, it’s my own screen shot.

Season 2 – Episode 16 – Feb. 13, 2012

I Helu Pu

A woman is murdered during the Governor’s fund raising dinner. Five-0 steps in to investigate and get in trouble with the Governor when the team goes too far trying to catch the killer.

Who doesn’t remember this Valentine’s episode? Or the team at the ball, dressed up, and Danny and Steve bickering over Season’s tickets? Or you might remember Steve going over the edge or getting hit by a car. I guess most of all will remember that this was good bye for Lori. And of course we saw Cath again.

If you want to know how their trip to the Enterprise went you might like to read this. Click on image to go to the story.

And if you were bothered by Lori at the hospital instead of Danny, you can find an explanation for that right here:

Impact

Season 2 – Episode 17 – Feb. 20, 2012

Kupale

Five-0 investigates the murder of a shipping businessman who was supposed to be participating in a historical Hawaiian battle reenactment.

I guess we all remember hundred half naked men running around and battle each other? And I’m sure we also remember Steve smoking the suspect out of his house.

Season 2 – Episode 18 – Feb. 27, 2012

Lekio

A retired New York police officer helps the team figure out who killed one of his close friends, a pirate radio disc jockey.

Season 2 – Episode 19 – March 19, 2012

Kalele

While Steve’s sister Mary is back in town, with yet another new job, and accidentally gets caught in the middle of a plot to smuggle conflict diamonds, Five-0 and Fryer get the help of an elderly ex-con recently released from prison to find the smugglers.

Ed Asner guest stars and picks up his role from 40 years ago, when he last appeared on H50. And the team tries to surprise Steve for his birthday. And obviously Steve managed to convince Danny to go surfing with him.

This is the last episode with AOL until he appears again in episode 22. He missed all in all four episodes. He was not in 20, 21, the crossover with NCIS:LA, and the one episode that was completely cancelled. The season was supposed to have 24 instead of the 23 episodes it ended up with.

Season 2 poll – part 3

Season 2 – Episode 11 – 15

Here you go; the next 5 episodes for your consideration.

If not otherwise credited on the picture I did the screen shot. Thanks again mycoven.com for a fantastic job on the screen shots. You should head over to there; the pics for 3.20 are up.

Season 2 – Episode 11 – December 5, 2011

Pahele

Joe White has to appear in front of a board of inquiry to defend his actions as an active member of the Navy in North Korea.

Meanwhile a busload of school children is kidnapped. Soon Five-0 learns that they are held hostage because of their big drug bust a few days ago. The kidnappers want to pressure the Governor into giving back their drugs, confiscated by Five-0.

To make matters more complicated Joe White gets in trouble with a kidnapping of his own.

Season 2 – Episode 12 – December 12, 2011

Alaheo Pau’ole

The team gets ready for Chin Ho’s wedding, but their preparations are interrupted by the investigation into a man left for dead in an old WW2 bunker. They team up with Captain Fryer who is searching for the killer of a young woman and it seems their cases are connected. Steve starts to suspect Joe keeping things from him and lying about his knowledge of Shelburne.

Season 2 – Episode 13 – January 2, 2012

Ka Ho’ Oponopono

While Five-0 tries to figure out who smothered a high school girl in her bed, the Yakuza targets Joe because they believe he killed their leader.

In this episode we get Ninja-Steve, and for the first time he acknowledges that he was tortured in North Korea. I was hoping we would see more of his coping with that, but I guess that would have taken too much time out of a 44 minute episode. Time restriction is always a big issue with every TV-show. Which is often a shame.

I think this is the episode that even the last person realized that something was terribly wrong with Alex O’Loughlin. It was very obvious that he was really sick. It’s a tragedy that he had to keep going for many more weeks until he could finally take a break. Thank God he came out of that time healthy and happy. I debated to address this or not, but I must admit watching these episodes again, it was a real shock. AOL looks very different now, not just healthy, but really happy, and seeing the episodes from season two does make me sad. Knowing the struggle, the pain from the injury and the illness behind those scenes takes the carefree joy out of the season.

Season 2 – Episode 14 – January 16, 2012

Ka Ho’ Oponopono

Five-0 investigates the hijacking of a delivery truck in which the driver is killed, and Danny’s ex-wife goes into labor. Danny spends most of the episode next to Rachel, while Steve and the Yakuza put pressure on Joe to come clean with what happened to Hiro Noshimuri.

I guess we all remember Kamekona’s ‘Five-0, Five-0, what you gonna do, when they come for you’. Bad Boys indeed.

Season 2 – Episode 15 – February 6, 2012

Mai Ka Wa Kahiko

An enemy from Danny’s past comes to the islands for revenge, and the life of Danny’s daughter could hang in the balance.

Random thoughts on 3.20

A little warning upfront, if you haven’t seen the episode yet… turn away now. At the end of this review there won’t be any surprises left. So, you have been warned. 😉

From now on you can rate every episode in a quick poll. Hope you will have fun to see what others thought of the episode. If you vote below ‘okay’ I’m sure we all would love to hear why. Tell us in the comments if you like.

Okay, before we even start with the review I like to say that I’m pretty sure that this is the episode that was more anticipated than any other. And it won’t come as a surprise, knowing me by now, that I was not disappointed.

But as usual let’s start at the beginning. Three years ago we saw Steve McGarrett transporting a prisoner in a convoy in South Korea. Back then we didn’t know who the prisoner was or where he got caught. We didn’t even know much about who Steve McGarrett was. Over the years we learned more about the Hesse brothers and who we thought was behind the murder of Steve’s dad.

NOW we will finally learn what actually happened in the hours before those first scenes of Hawaii Five-0. And I for one couldn’t be happier to see more of SEAL Steve. As I said before I think he is the character with the most interesting background. Just the fact that he is one of only about roughly 3,000 SEALs makes him more interesting than one out of a million police officers. (Yes, there are about one million police officers in the US. The numbers vary between 900,000 and 1,100,000. Depending on where you look for it.)

Anyway, I’d be happy to learn a bit more about the others too, but jumped for joy to get a whole episode about our Steve. (And I bet SC, DDK, and GP were happy to have some time off.)

320Image1b

Steve is back in South Korea, at the border to North Korea to be exact. Obviously to make some kind of prisoner exchange. Of course we know that he is supposed to pick up his SEAL buddy who he had to leave behind on a previous mission. Now, after three years he will finally come home. Anyone who thought that this would go as smoothly as planned? No, of course not.

I must say those were some chilling scenes at the beginning. I loved it how McGarrett didn’t even utter one word, but his thoughts were more than clear. Perfect.

Okay, everyone who had seen even just a glimpse of BUD/S training or had been to Coronado would know that this is not southern California. But I guess it’s the best they could do in beautiful Hawaii. And I’m glad that our heroes didn’t have to freeze their little butts off. The water in December in Coronado is damn cold. So lucky for our guys that they were in Hawaii in March. Nice and warm. But I’m sure it was still not much fun to lie in the surf like that or make sugar cookies out of oneself. 🙂

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Not sure why Joe was picking on Hart, but as we learn in a little while he had his reasons to suspect him to be a quitter. (Little fact here, the drop-out rate at BUD/S is between 70 and 90 percent. The winter course is harder due to the cold water conditions and therefore the drop-out rate is higher. And BUD/S is only the beginning. After this they are a long way from the trident. All Navy SEALs must attend and graduate from their rating’s 24-week school known as Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training and then the 26-week SEAL Qualification Training (SQT) program. SQT qualifies all BUD/S graduates in basic SEAL skillsets in MAROPS, Combat Swimmer, Communications, TCCC, Close Quarters Combat, Land Warfare, Static line/Free-fall Parachute Operations, SERE Level C (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Survival,_Evasion,_Resistance_and_Escape ), CQD and Hand-to-Hand Combat. All sailors entering the SEAL training pipeline with a medical rating or those chosen by Naval Special Warfare Command must also attend the 6 month Advanced Medical Training Course 18D and subsequently earn the NEC SO-5392 Naval Special Warfare Medic before joining an operational Team. Once outside the formal schooling environment SEALs entering a new Team at the beginning of an operational rotation can expect 18 months of advanced training before each 6 month deployment. In total, from the time a prospective SEAL enters military service to the time he finishes his first pre-deployment training cycle, it can take over 30 months to completely train a Navy SEAL for his first deployment)

It was nice to see a tiny glimpse into how Steve started out to become a SEAL, and it tells us for good now that Steve went to SEAL school first and worked for NI later. Or maybe he never worked for NI but for the CIA’s highly secretive Special Activities Division (SAD) like he told Danny that Nick did (back in 1.09). They recruit operators from the SEAL teams. Joint Navy SEALs and CIA operations go back to the Vietnam War and are still seen in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. That creepy guy (Robert Picardo, probably best known as the ‘Holo’-doc from Star Trek Voyager) in a later scene might be from SAD.

Boy, you are getting more background information in this ‘review’ than an actual review. Need to change that. 😉

Guess all that training with Egan came in handy while stopping his buddy from quitting.

After this little visit to Steve’s past way back, we are back in the present at Osan AFB in South Korea, where Steve and Cath are waiting for their flight back home. I really loved it that Cath called Danny to give him an update about how it all went. I thought it was sweet that she kept him in the loop. And it was even sweeter that Danny asked how his boy was doing.

Even though Catherine told Danny everything went without a hitch, that was about to change. Of course it couldn’t be that easy. They got the wrong body.

Now we get the next flashback, this time not quite as far into the past. The time is September 2010. And we all know what that means. Shortly after whatever is going to happen, the events in the Pilot happened. But before that we finally see Steve with sunglasses again. First of all, I think shades can look really cool, and I always wondered why the heck they aren’t wearing any in Hawaii. No, seriously, all of them are glaring in the sun, sometimes barely able to see. Please, prop people, give them some shades. It’s good for their health, and it looks cool.

This is when Steve gets the order to travel to North Korea to extract Anton Hesse. Now, here is a question for all of you. Didn’t we learn that Wo Fat was behind the whole murder scenario of Steve’s father, that he was responsible for the killing? And that it was his planning and funding that made the attack on the convoy possible? If that is so how did he manage to organize all that in such a short time? How did he even know about it? I’m presuming that Steve didn’t spend any length of time in South Korea before he transported Anton Hesse. Was Wo Fat in NK during that time? Was he also behind all the smuggling? And if so, did Steve just eliminate a huge part of his operation at the end of this episode?

Okay, back to the show. On the couch is the creepy CIA/SAD guy I was talking about. “This mission does not exist. If you’re killed or captured, you’re on your own. That means no rescue attempts, no negotiations, not even an acknowledgement of your service.” Sounds like fun, doesn’t it?

Steve is allowed to choose his own partner, and so Freddie Hart and Steve are on their way. Personally I love the scenes on the plane. Yes, the story that he just got married and a baby on the way was maybe a bit much. BUT they sold it really cute and those were some great scenes.

And we learned how Steve knew that the body was not Freddie. The question now was what to do about it? Going to the authorities and trying to negotiate again? No, Steve was right; they have waited long enough for Freddie to come home. Only one right thing to do. (And please remember, this is TV, not real life. So yeah, on TV two people can go into North Korea to retrieve a body that was buried who knows where and might not even be there anymore. On TV everything is possible. Well, almost everything. If you think this is unrealistic, well only two words for you, ‘Giant Claw’. THAT was unrealistic. Steve going into North Korea? Piece of cake.)

I really liked their mini argument if Cath should come or not. And I loved Steve’s acknowledgement that she CAN take care of herself just like he can take care of himself. That was great, and one part of Steve I really love. He accepts her and other women as equals. That is truly great. That of course doesn’t mean he doesn’t try to protect them just a little bit more than his male friends. But that is just natural and I would be disappointed if he didn’t. And I was very happy that he didn’t pull rank on her, and accepted her help easily.

Uh, and by the way, what does she needs Dramamine for? Does she have motion sickness or her boyfriend? 😉

I thought Steve and Joe were kind of at odds with each other? Isn’t Steve at least somewhat mad at him for lying all those years? This actually came as a little surprise.

I’m not really sure what was more disgusting; what’s in that drink or his finger in it. 😉

Welcome back Frank Bama.

Okay, you all know I’m not a fan of Kono. And again she showed me why I won’t become one any time soon. I have no idea who thinks it might be clever or even remotely funny to let her say such stupid crap. Really, Kono, you think Steve would ever forget that he was captured and tortured in NK? Or that he needs YOU to remind him of that? I’m more than sure that Steve is very well aware of the risks they are taking right now. Sorry to disappoint you, Kono, you don’t sound like the adult here at all. I only found that remark stupid and almost offensive. And I think even Steve looked annoyed. I bet he wished not to have called them with an update.

I have to completely agree with Frank here, Steve does look so much better than the last time he was in the country. I liked Frank the last time we saw him, and I liked him this time around even more. Loved the scene with Tangerine.

With Frank’s help they make it into North Korea, armed and ready to take on everyone who stands in their way of recovering Freddie.

This is the perfect time for the next short flashback. This time to the beginning of the mission to capture Anton Hesse. With very cool scenes jumping out of the plane, and the two boys landing in the right location.

We’re going right back to Steve and Catherine who are, according to Steve, just 3 clicks (one click = military speak for one kilometer, that’s about 1093 yards) from where they will find Freddie. How the heck did Steve know that he was still where he left him? Why was he so sure that Freddie was still there? I mean, really, I think it is highly unlikely that the baddies back then took the time to bury him right there on the spot where he was killed. If they would bury him at all. So, how does Steve know where to find his friend? That is one big plot hole, but one I’m willing to overlook.

320Image127

Don’t you think it was a bit naïve and way too risky to take a prisoner, even though he was the one killing, or at least shooting his friend? I’m pretty sure Steve would not have gone after that guy; simply because it would comprise their situation. It was a high risk they took to capture the guy.

And as we could see soon, it didn’t work out like they hoped.

Of course they got their guy in the end.

I thought it was very sweet how worried Steve was about Cath’s injuries, and how Cath thought that his were way worse. Two tough ‘guys’ not willing to admit they were both hurting pretty badly.

Finding Freddie’s remains and realizing what was done to his body are my second favorite scenes. That was pretty heartbreaking.

In the next scenes we got another glimpse of BAMF Steve. I would not want to get on his bad side. Really, I would think twice of making him my enemy. I guess the scene with the grenade is kind of controversial, but I don’t have a problem with it. They had to make sure that he stays put. Sure, his chances were not very good to survive it, but he still had a chance. Besides, this was not on some back road on Oahu; this was North Korea, in the middle of enemy territory. I do believe different rules of engagement are in effect in that situation. So, I’m okay with it, and with the outcome of it.

Of course it was clear that it would not go smoothly after this. And sure enough Steve and Cath were captured.

I have to confess I was a little disappointed in the scenes with Cath and Steve as prisoners. I expected at least some kind retaliation from Han Ji Woon. I expected him to at least rough up Steve a little bit. But on the other hand they were led away to their execution. Guess Woon didn’t want to waste any time with them. And Woon was somewhat right, Steve was on a personal vendetta and looking at them being prisoners, it was kind of foolish to go after Woon. They should have only gone after the body and leave. But of course I can understand that Steve wanted to get the guy who mutilated his friend’s remains.

I loved it how Cath and Steve worked in perfect sync taking out the bad guys.

What kind of stupid macho behavior was that? Han Ji Woon coming at Steve like that? I mean, a small handgun without any cover against an assault rifle from behind cover? Simply stupid and a bit unbelieving that he would do such a thing.

At this point I had almost forgotten that we still didn’t learn how Freddie died. So, here we got the next flashback.

And that was a really tough one. When Freddie was hit and he wanted Steve to leave him there. Those were great scenes. For me the best of the episode. It was so heartbreaking that Steve had to leave his friend behind. All his efforts were useless, and in the end he had to drive off.

It was kind of cool that they used footage from the actual pilot. Even though I had to smile at how different Alex looked back then. I think a bit older and the little more weight suits him well.

Remembering the scenes that are to follow and now knowing what happened before that, it shows us what his job had cost Steve in just a few days. His best friend got killed, and just a few days later his father met the same fate. That had been a hard week for Steve.

I loved the scenes on the plane with Catherine and Steve. That was very sweet.

There is really not much to say about the ending of the episode. That was pretty much perfect. I have nothing that I would change about it. I loved the scenes at the airport. The respect everyone showed when the casket was unloaded. I loved it how they showed the different people and started with the voice-over and the wonderful music, and then switched to the actual funeral. That was brilliantly done.

The scenes with the little daughter are actually not my favorite ones. For me that was a tiny little bit too much. And I was for the first time totally distracted by that stupid wig. I know I should simply ignore it, but I couldn’t. That looked so ridiculous. Who the heck is responsible for that? The same guy who does the makeup for the tattoo when Steve takes his shirt off? It’s obvious that he/she is colorblind. We have absolute proof now. And btw why couldn’t they film the scenes at ‘Coronado’ last, and give Steve for the future episodes a haircut? Why do we have to endure this wig a few more episodes? Really, guys, Steve can’t get a haircut? Okay, rant over, on to the funeral.

How cool was it that his team was there? Supporting him from a respectable distance. I loved that.

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Well, I guess all that is left is my verdict. I’m sure that is not that hard to guess. I loved this episode, but I knew that long before it even aired. Give me SEAL Steve and I’m happy. Yeah, I’m easy like that. LOL

No, seriously, I think this was a well written and perfectly executed hour of entertainment. It had action and lots of emotional scenes for our normally unfazed SEAL. This was a very well rounded episode. I loved the different color theme for every time of the ep, every flashback had a slightly different filter. That was great.

And I for one didn’t miss the team one bit. Simply because this was not about the team. This was purely about Steve and his background. And I loved to see that. And I loved to see Catherine with him, not as his girlfriend, but as an equal partner and officer of the Navy. But still she gave him support in any way he needed. Those two are just perfect for each other. I couldn’t have said it better than Freddie did: “She is the real deal. Don’t mess it up.” I truly hope Steve’s ‘roger that’ means just that. This episode was written by Peter Lenkov and Ken Solarz. I hope those words were written by Lenkov and that he will remember them for a long time to come. Don’t mess those two up, Mr. Lenkov. Please.

For me, this was an outstanding episode and no other rating than an A plus will suffice.

I would love to hear where you agree or strongly disagree.

Season 2 poll – part 2

Here you go; the next 6 episodes for your consideration.

Most of the screenshots I did myself; otherwise as credited as on the pictures. Special thanks to mycoven.com for providing such great shots.

Season 2 – Episode 5 – October 17, 2011

Ma’eme’e

The University of Hawaii women’s volleyball coach is killed, and Five-0’s investigation leads back to the disgraced ex-cop that Kono now works for.

Maybe you remember this one best for the great cargument about life in Hawaii with all its expenses. And that Danny might lose his apartment soon.

Or maybe for the Chin and Malia storyline, if you can call their short date a storyline.

Some of you might mostly remember it because of Kono’s storyline that comes to an end in this one. I really liked the scenes in the ‘blue room’ but thought it ridiculous that the head of the task force had not been informed about the undercover op. I mean, even the fans ‘knew’ about it. Or is there even one fan out there who didn’t know she was working undercover?

I didn’t want to give an opinion on the episodes, but on this I can’t resist. Simply because I think they could have done so much better with this whole Kono thing. For me that was simply illogical and the whole mess didn’t make much sense. No bad guy with half a brain would have fallen for her story. But that is just my opinion, and I’m biased because I’m not a fan of Kono.

I would love to hear your thoughts about this ep. If you have a minute, please leave a comment.

Season 2 – Episode 6 – October 24, 2011

Ka Hakaka Maika’i

While Five-0 tries to figure out who killed a well-known Honolulu businessman, Joe gets an unwelcome visitor while trying to search for answers about the video.

Do I need to say more than MMA episode?

Season 2 – Episode 7 – October 31, 2011

Ka Iwi Kapu

Two ghost-hunting filmmakers are killed at a historic traditional burial site, and when the team discovers more dead bodies at the site, they suspect they could be after a serial killer.

Who doesn’t remember Danny acting like a total jerk? I don’t know why he was written this way, but his disrespect was disturbing. To say the least.

Season 2 – Episode 8 – November 7, 2011

Lapa’au

When an ICE agent is killed, Five-0 must find out which smuggling ring she was investigating in order to find her killer.

I guess everyone remembers the ‘dog’ riding shotgun, and the boys watching ‘Enemy Mine’? 🙂

Season 2 – Episode 9 – November 14, 2011

Ike Maka

Five-0 tries to uncover the identity of a man who recently had plastic surgery but was found dead in the trunk of a stolen muscle car; which will hopefully lead them to his killer.

So, Danny is living with Steve for a couple of weeks now, and the boys are driving each other nuts. Well, what did you expect? LOL

You should all do yourself a favor and go to ‘An Intense Study’ and visit this post: http://alexoloughlinintensestudy.wordpress.com/2013/04/09/undressing-steve-episode-209/

Another fun ‘recap’ of the episode.

Season 2 – Episode 10 – November 21, 2011

Ki’ilua

While Five-0 investigates the death of a reporter, Jenna returns to ask McGarrett for help finding her fiancé in North Korea. Steve discovers too late that she had been working for Wo Fat for some time and was just luring him to North Korea to exchange him for her fiancé. It is up to Joe White to organize the rescue mission into enemy territory to rescue Steve with the help of his friends and members of a SEAL team.

Season 2 poll – part 1

Now that we are done with season 1 (Have you voted yet? If not use the menu to go to the voting page.) we can go on to season 2.

Here are the next four episodes to consider for our poll for season 2.

Season 2 – Episode 1 – September 19, 2011

Ha’i’ole

McGarrett escapes from Halawa prison and sets out to get Wo Fat. His disbanded Five-0 team and a man who trained him are more than willing to help.

Who doesn’t remember the fight with Victor, and Steve jumping out of the ambulance? And how his escape ended on the bathroom floor of their ME Max Bergman, passed out from blood loss? Or maybe you remember the absolute great cargument in Max’s Warp 9. Whatever the case, this was one hell of an episode.

Season 2 – Episode 2 – September 26, 2011

Ua Lawe Wale

The governor appoints a new member to the Five-0 team, while they are trying to find a kidnapped 15-year old girl. Meanwhile, Kono is under investigation by Internal Affairs.

Who doesn’t remember Lori? Or Steve and Danny on horses?

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Season 2 – Episode 3 – October 3, 2011

Kame’e

As a favor for his former CO Joe White, Steve asks Max to reopen a case on an apparent suicide. A SEAL had killed himself and Joe doesn’t believe that to be true. As it turn out he was right. More members of a certain SEAL team turn up dead. In the subplot of the episode Kono contemplates a job offer from the underworld.

So, any idea what operation Strawberry Fields was? Maybe we will learn about it in 3×20; but I’m not holding my breath.

Season 2 – Episode 4 – October 10, 2011

Mea Makamae

The team discovers that a dead salvage diver was looking for more than sunken treasures. Chin Hi discovers that Kono accessed his HPD account, and McGarrett seeks the help of Catherine Rollins to figure out what’s delaying the DOD findings about his father.

Most of the screen shots I did myself, otherwise it’s noted on the pictures. Thanks to CBS for the promo pics.

Number one – final part season 1

Here are the next five episodes to consider for our poll.

The actual poll will be posted later today and will be open until we start the final round of the favorite episodes from all seasons.

Season 1 – Episode 20 – April 11, 2011

Ma Ke Kahakai

The team investigates the death of a commercial fisherman whose body was found in an unexpected place, while the imminent death of Chin Ho’s aunt could reveal surprising new details about the stolen drug money.

I doubt that this episode is remembered because of the crime of the week. 😉 I will bet good money that most remember it for Steve and Danny going hiking, with Steve ending up with a boulder to his head and falling down the cliff. Breaking his arm in the process and getting some nasty abrasions. Kudos to the make-up department for that. They looked pretty good.

Season 1 – Episode 21 – April 18, 2011

Ho’opa’i

Five-0 turns up the heat on a crime boss after the safe house of an undercover police officer who infiltrated his organization is compromised and his wife is killed.

Well, there was a lot of hype about P Diddy guest staring. I think he was rather boring and I gladly could go by without those supposedly great guest stars. But of course that is just my opinion.

You might remember this one for Kamekona trying to cook breakfast for Steve for a whole week.

Season 1 – Episode 22 – May 2, 2011

Ho’ohuli Na’au

While investigating the murder of a professional photographer, Five-0 discovers a connection to a local bookie. Meanwhile, Chin Ho covers for his uncle and claims that he has stolen the drug money.

The cast is off and Steve is enjoying a run up a trail. And we can enjoy the scenery. 😉

Season 1 – Episode 23 – May 9, 2011

Ua Hiki Mai Kapalena Pau

Danny is exposed to sarin while Five-0 tries to track down Wo Fat, and Chin Ho’s plan to quietly return the money his uncle stole gets busted when IA finds out about it.

Uncle Steve makes an appearance, and we learn that Danny has an affair with a married woman. Has for a few weeks actually.

Season 1 – Episode 24 – May 16, 2011

Oia’I’o

After one of Governor Jameson’s assistants is killed, McGarrett discovers that the governor may have been working with Wo Fat and may have been the target of his father’s investigation. Things get complicated when Steve is framed for Laura Hills’ murder.

Number one – part four

Here are the next five episodes to consider for our poll.

Season 1 – Episode 15 – Jan. 23, 2011

Kai e’e

The island’s leading tsunami expert is kidnapped on the same day that ocean reports indicate that a huge tsunami is headed to Hawaii. However, Five-0 soon suspects that the report is a hoax and is related to the kidnapping.

This was the episode with the most viewers so far. Over 19 Million. Of course that was due to the fact it aired on a special day on Sunday after football.

Most people will probably remember this episode for the ‘not-missing’ 10 Million Dollars from the HPD locker. And Danny was getting surfing lessons. And of course Catherine was back.

Season 1 – Episode 16 – Feb. 7, 2011

E Malama

McGarrett and Chin Ho try to rescue and protect a federal witness on the run from assassins, while Danny tries to get to the bottom of his daughter and ex-wife’s carjacking.

In this episode we have Chin and Steve building a team, with Kono staying back at the courthouse, and Danny solving a problem of his own.

Season 1 – Episode 17 – Feb. 14, 2011

Powa Maka Moana

Five-0 searches for a group of Spring Breakers who are being held for ransom by a group of pirates.

This is the one where Danny and Steve push the Marquis up the Pali Highway, and Danny is NOT thrilled about it. And he is even less impressed with Steve’s methods to open a door. 🙂

Season 1 – Episode 18 – Feb. 21, 2011

Loa Aloha

While Five-0 races to stop a mad bomber before he kills again, Danny gets an unexpected visit from his little brother, Matt, a fun-loving, Wall Street broker. The family reunion is cut short, however, when Danny discovers the real reason that Matt is in Hawaii.

I’m still waiting for brother Matt coming back, or at least hear about his fate. But nothing so far. Not even a mention in passing.

Season 1 – Episode 19 – March. 21, 2011

Ne Me’e Laua Na Paio

A costumed comics convention superhero fell to his death, pushed from his hotel balcony, but only as the victim of a drunken rooms mix-up. The team must work out how a ransacked room, no robbery, compromising pictures and adultery fit together. Steve rightly mistrusts a self-styled CIA-agent, works out she’s a mere analyst and not even assigned, but decides to collaborate as she has indications his father’s killer may have worked for Yakuza boss Wo Fat. Danny grumpily started dieting for his worried brat’s sake.

And not to forget Johnny, the most stupid, but lovable baddie ever.

And now, here are the next episode.

Season 1 – Episode 10 – Nov. 22, 2010

Heihei

The team is on the trail of a team who are planning a robbery during the Honolulu triathlon.

You might remember this one because of Kamekona getting a free phone from McGarrett after sitting on it. Or Kono and Steve going swimming in the harbor. But probably mostly because we meet the Ex. And I must say I absolutely loved her. As Steve said, “She’s cool, man.”

And here is a video, which you shouldn’t take too seriously, but it is brilliantly done. And it has a lot of scenes from this episode. It really made me smile.

Season 1 – Episode 11 – Dec. 6, 2010

Palekaiko

After a woman escapes from abduction and her new husband is found dead in their hotel room, Five-0 discovers that they are dealing with a serial killer who targets newlywed couples.

This is the episode where Chin and Steve are bonding over Spearfishing and finding out that Steve’s mom had been murdered.

Season 1 – Episode 12 – Dec. 13, 2010

Hana’a a Makehewa

McGarrett discovers that the man who killed his father is still alive, and threatening to kill Chin Ho with a bomb unless his ransom demand is met.

We meet Victor Hesse again, and the team has to break the law to save Chin.

Watch the “Behind the scenes” video and learn about Alex taking one for the team. 😉

Season 1 – Episode 13 – Jan. 3, 2011

Ke Kinohi

McGarrett’s father’s toolbox is stolen, and his sister is kidnapped for investigating their mother’s death. McGarrett soon discovers that his father was investigating a suspected Yakuza leader before his death.

Most will probably remember Steve waking to a robbery in his house. Poor guy gets tased and knocked out, and Danny eats Steve’s secret stash of sweets. 😉

And we learn that Steve never would have left the islands and join the Navy if his mother hadn’t been killed. I can image Steve as a science geek instead of a SEAL. LOL

Oh, and do yourself a favor and go read this tie-in for the episode. I fell instantly in love with her writing.

Season 1 – Episode 14 – Jan. 17, 2011

He Kane Hewa’ Ole

Five-0 searches for identity and motive when a box with a severed head falls out of an overturned stolen car during a police chase–a task made more difficult when the driver dies at the scene.

We learn that even a SEAL has to do the dishes, and that Danny wants to put a smile on his face. J This is also remembered as the Chips episode.

Number one – part 2

Season 1 Episodes 5 – 9

Here are the rules again:

  • After we are done with one season I will post the poll for that season.
  • In the poll you can choose up to 8 episodes.
  • When you’ve picked 8 episodes for each season we will have a full set of 24 episodes to choose from in our final poll.
  • At the end you can then name 5 episodes out of those 24 elected.

Most of the screen captures I made myself, a few are from AOLRocks. Promo pics from CBS, or as on the pics indicated.

And now, here are the next episodes.

Season 1 – Episode 05 – Oct. 18, 2010

Nalowale

One daughter of the U.S. ambassador to the Philippines is killed and another daughter is missing. Governor Jameson, a personal friend of the ambassador, asks Five-0 to investigate.

You might remember this episode as the Pac Man episode, or as I prefer to it as the one with Steve and Cath waking up in bed. And of course ending up on the beach. There are also great Danny and Steve scenes in this one. Poor Danny has to use a cane and gets sidelined for a bit. And we meet MAX.

Season 1 – Episode 06 – Oct. 25, 2010

Ko’olauloa

When the CEO of a hugely successful surf company is murdered, Kono revisits her past while Five-0 is thrown headlong into the varied but interconnected worlds of North Shore surfing.

This is the episode that introduces us to ‘island time’ and ‘Kawika’. We learn that Danny is not scared, but rationally concerned, and that Chin and Steve enjoy riding a bike. And we also learn that Steve likes to shoot Danny, if he dares to ask him one more time about his ‘strategic ops’. 🙂

Season 1 – Episode 07 – Nov. 1, 2010

Ho’apono

McGarrett places himself in the middle of a hostage situation on the USS Missouri. The hostage-taker is a Navy SEAL suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, who is the prime suspect in the murder of his wife.

We learn quite a lot about Steve through their suspect. And we can watch Five-0 working as a team even when apart. And Aquaman makes his first appearance. And of course not to forget Danny stringing words together in the hope they make sense. 🙂

Season 1 – Episode 08 – Nov. 8, 2010

Mana’o

Danny’s ex-partner from the Honolulu P.D., is found in a luau barbecue pit. Danny demands the team must take his word the man was incorruptible, although evidence piles up he was involved in corruption surrounding the Mexican Ochoa cocaine cartel. Internal affairs Sergeant Cage, who wrecked Chin’s reputation, is on the case but fails to shield it as HPD Detective Ahuna discretely joins the Five-O investigation. The deeper they dig, the dirtier everyone looks. Jailed drug dealer Sang Min holds a trump card, so Danny bids on it.

Season 1 – Episode 09 – Nov. 15, 2010

Po’ipu

Five-0 is assigned to help stop an assassination plot against a despicable foreign leader, with the help of one of McGarrett’s old SEAL buddies.

Massive gun fights, massive hand-to-hand combat, explosions, Steve’s house under siege. Do I even need to say anything else?

And let’s not forget one of the best carguments about Jersey, Hawaii and Jon Bon Jovi. AND Danny admitting “You’re good.”

Random thoughts on 3×14

I apologize in advance for the picture spam that will be in this post. But the whole team looked so darn good, one guy in particular. So, I hope you will forgive me.

Wow, what a week. Three episodes in eight days. How great was that? Unfortunately, that also means we are well into the second half of season 3. And depending on how many episodes we will get, I heard it will be 24; we only have 10 more to go. Can you believe that? I still remember the long wait over the summer, and how happy I was when the season finally begun. It feels like it was just yesterday. Even though we didn’t win the lottery and didn’t attend SOTB. But there is still hope for next year. Girls, our numbers are still in the game. Just so you know.

Talking about a game. Who was playing a game in this exciting episode? The Governor, Wo Fat, The Politician, The Campaign People? All somehow working together? Or totally unrelated to each other? Huh. And let’s not forget an important part of this show. The custody hearing.

But let’s start at the beginning.

For me, it was no question who this was, but I wondered why she went to meet him. Did she know him prior to this meeting at the lounge? She seemed happy to see him. But I guess her happiness didn’t last that long. Although I have a question about something I don’t understand. Why did Wo Fat pull the trigger? He didn’t shoot her. Just to scare her off? She was plenty scared already, and shooting in the middle of the night would only draw attention to them. So why do it?

Those were two mighty nervous men waiting for the hearing. That was without a doubt one of the best bromance scenes the series has produced so far. How cute was the fixing of the tie, which I’m sure Steve left like that on purpose so Danny could have a little distraction? I mean really, Steve was in uniform half his life; he knows how the tie has to look with his uniform. No way was that not intentional. But no matter what, I loved it. And that way SC could get back at Alex for fixing his tie.

I think this was a great scene to show Steve and Danny’s friendship. The court hearing of course didn’t go according to plan, well actually, I think it did. I don’t even know why Danny prepared a speech and put it down on paper. As if he would have read from it. Danny is neither organized nor in control, so why even bother with something like that? His strength lies in the improvisation, and I think that was a lot better anyway. I loved how Steve stood up as a character witness, I don’t think Danny can do much better than that person standing before the judge. In his uniform and all. I mean come on, she was a goner as soon as she saw him.

Of course, the Governor had to call during the hearing. Steve couldn’t hold him off any longer than he did, it’s not in his nature to ignore a call from his superior. But he said what needed to be said, and I was sure everything was good.

If you don’t want to listen to me ranting about Danny, you might like to skip to the next pictures. Just a friendly warning.

It is surely no secret that I don’t like Danny that much. But lately he has grown on me, simply because season three is so great, and he was not really bothering me. And as my friend Cokie tells me, I have to love him because Steve loves him. I try; I swear; I really try to. But in this episode, he did it again. He p/ssed me off.

Really, Danny? You still hate Hawaii? You’re still in the same place as in the beginning of season one?

I must say I was miffed when he said “I hate Hawaii”. Because for me that is not just the islands, but includes everything associated with it.

I thought it was sad to say his daughter is his whole world. There is nothing there that he even remotely likes? With his words and attitude, he puts everyone down. His friends, his work, even himself. And it doesn’t make it any better that he said it’s his home. Because it is only so because his daughter is there.

He is still just like in 1.24 when he said to Rachel there is NOTHING in Hawaii for him.

It’s just him and his daughter? Well, Danny, I feel bad and sad for everyone who considers you family. It’s a shame that you don’t feel the same way. With words like that you don’t deserve the friends you have.

I thought Danny was at least somewhat feeling like being at home. And that he realized that he had a family outside his blood family. It seems to me that even his words in the hospital last week, or all his other actions showing that he considered his coworkers as Ohana, were just an act. Because his words before the judge belie all his behavior.

When he said all that in court, I don’t think Steve’s face only showed that he thought how stupid it was to say that before the judge, but I also think he felt sad that Danny still feels like that. Not just a minute before he said how important it was for him that Steve was there for him, and now he says that he has no one but Grace. How must a friend feel to hear that from his best friend? I’m sure that was really great to hear.

Okay, rant over. And I would really like to hear your interpretation of what Danny said. What did you hear?

Now we can start with the crime of the week. A strangled woman in the Governor’s friends’ house.

Denning’s attitude felt very manipulative, and I was curious how long McGarrett would let him get away with it. I thought it was amusing that Danny wanted to butt heads with him right away, and Steve was willing to play along for the time being. It seems to me that Danny really doesn’t know when to shut up. I loved it how Steve reminded him what the last time happened they went against him. I mean Danny should know that Steve wouldn’t sweep anything under the rug anyway. So why the aggressive stand? Why not investigating first, and then making some noise?

And Steve is right; it doesn’t matter if it’s official or a favor, it’s an order from their boss. I found it offensive to compare Steve to a string toy, following orders without thinking. Getting a directive and follow through with it, that is what the chain of command is, Danny. But maybe that is just me, and others think Danny is funny. Well, I don’t.

It’s nice to see that Chin is back and seemingly well. But I hope there will still repercussions from what happened to him with Malia and from killing Delano. But we’ll see.

‘Houston we have a problem’ is right. Finding a dead hooker in the bed in a house that belongs to friends of the Governor? Not good at all. And nobody liked where this was going, surely not Steve, who realized that he was being played by the Governor. And as we learned in 3.08, he hates being played.

Any of you thought the Governor had something to do with it? I didn’t. I just thought he was going about all this the completely wrong way. Not telling McG the truth was not a good idea. But I never doubted him. First, I like him, and second, we already had a corrupt Governor. Surely, they wouldn’t repeat that? Well, on the other hand, with Peter Lenkov you can’t be sure of anything.

Excuse me, but did anyone else think that ‘student’ was a bit too naïve? It’s nobody’s business what she’s doing with her body? Well, missy, I hate to tell you, but you are wrong. Last time I checked, prostitution was against the law in the United States. And the IRS might also be interested in what kind of money you are making on the side. How stupid can one person be? And she’s a student? Well, then good night.

While Kono and Chin have discovered they have a tail, Danny has to inform Steve that Governor Denning isn’t very eager to get the investigation forward. Stalling them any way he can? It’s not a hard prediction that he will get an unpleasant visit from McGarrett very soon.

Nice try to catch the guys in the car. At least now they know they were from the government.

I loved McGarrett’s and Denning’s power play. I truly believe that Denning was conflicted and thought he did the right thing. Of course he has no right to intervene with an investigation in that way. Deciding what evidence is legit and what not. That is surely not his job or his right. And trying to manipulate Five-0 in that way is never a good idea.

You know what, Danny? Just stop, just shut the heck up. The investigation is a waste of time, they are not going to tell us anything? It is your job to investigate; it is your job to make them talk and find out the truth. I am so sick and tired of Danny’s constant complaining and constant negativity. How anyone can stand even five minutes with him is a mystery to me. In this episode, he is totally getting on my nerves. I don’t find it funny or even amusing at all. I thought it was… two years ago. But it’s always the same. And now it is only annoying.

I know people will say, well, it’s just how he is. Yes, it is, and it’s fine. For him. But it is a personality trait I could never put up with. I think everyone has things that drive him/her nuts. And Danny’s ranting is my thing. I just can’t stand it. It’s a fine line for me. I love most of their carguments, or wherever they happen, but Danny’s bitching is something I can’t tolerate at all. I know; I should just roll my eyes and move on. Going to do that now.

I loved how they confronted the Congress man’s aid, or whatever his job is. Guess they had questions for him he’d rather not answer.

Okay, seriously, were we supposed to believe that this guy had something to do with the disappearance of Freed? Yeah, right.

But I must say the whole ‘interview’ was entertaining, and I was actually laughing out loud at Steve’s face about the bathroom. Come on, Steve, you never… If that is the case you should rectify that situation really soon. Preferably with Cath, who we will hopefully see soon.

After they had the proof that the teacher didn’t do it, this case got even more interesting.

Amy was back. And what has the opponent politician to do with all of this?

When Amy showed up, it was pretty clear that Wo Fat was somehow involved. The question only was, was he manipulating one of the candidates or also the Governor? Or was his game something completely different?

It was pretty obvious that Amy was lying; question was why. And what does she really know? Fong, thanks for having him again, solved another piece of the puzzle. It seemed that Freed didn’t have anything to do with the killing. That begs the question was he even ever with her, or anyone else like her?

What I liked most about this episode was how they pieced together every little detail until they had the big picture. Pulling in all resources to figure this one out. And we learned when this was supposed to be, on December 2. And that Amy spent quite a bit of money. And I loved it when they found out that Wo Fat was trying to get back into the game with buying another Politician.

I really liked it how Freed stood up to Wo Fat. He reminded me a lot of McGarrett and the Governor actually. I think those three are very much alike.

From now on the talking is over, and we progress rather fast towards trying to free Freed and capturing Wo Fat. That sure doesn’t happen without casualties.

If I were a sniper leaving a crime scene, I would not speed out of a parking garage and draw every attention to me. How stupid do writers think criminals are? I mean, fine, we got a little shooting and a bit of jumping, but really, that was not very clever.

Oh, and by the way, remember Steve last week? Danny doesn’t open his eyes either while shooting. 😉

Criminals shouldn’t use cell phones. At least not in Hawaii. Five-0 always seem to be able to track them down. Last week, they found out where Chin was, and this week. they figure out where Wo Fat is. All due to a little phone call.

314 087

I really loved it that the guy got away. Didn’t think of that, huh, Wo Fat? 😉

His list of crimes gets longer and longer. Now we can add kidnapping to it. Again. And there is a witness alive that can testify to it. Bad for you Wo Fat.

How did he know where to go to? Freed could have gotten in any direction. Best not to think about it, or that he stumbled over the hunter.

Well, I could say that the confrontation with Wo Fat was kind of ridiculous.

That Steve should have put the helicopter between Freed and Wo Fat, put it down on the ground.

I could also say how ridiculous it was that Danny didn’t make Swiss cheese out of the bike and Wo Fat. Or that Wo Fat didn’t hit Steve with his rifle, or a vital part of the helicopter.

But I’m not. 😉 Instead, just enjoy the rescue. But next time, please make his escape more believable, because this, well, it was not.

I wonder who is responsible for the props? Or maybe this was the responsibility of the stunt coordinator? Did you notice; Danny was with harness, without harness, with it again?

First of all, someone should watch out for stuff like that, and second, if I were the actor, I would realize that something is missing. Wouldn’t you? I know they are filming this mostly on a platform, but still, these are stupid goofs.

I’m sure Wo Fat left his cell phone intentionally for Five-0 to find. That way, he made sure that he wasn’t the only one going down.

314 103

So, in the end, they got everyone except Wo Fat. But what else is new?

I read on a few posts that people were wondering why Steve didn’t do anything to protect his mother when he learned that Wo Fat was on the islands. I didn’t need to see that. He did it either off screen, or Doris is still with her friends on Maui, or he simply heeded her words that she will take care of herself. Besides Wo Fat made it very clear that he was not after Doris. I’m sure Steve made arrangements, but I don’t need to see every little detail on screen. And I think he is way past the stage of freaking out because danger might come near his mother. And I’m absolutely okay with that.

And now we can finally come to the end of the episode. One of the best endings, if not THE best ending. I simply loved it. I loved the serious Steve, brooding over what happened that day. And I’m not sure it was only about Wo Fat; I think he also thought about what Danny said in court.

And no matter how often Danny says they had no choice but to leave; he’s wrong. This was a botched up rescue, and Steve knows it. There was no need to abort, Freed was not seriously injured, and five minutes wouldn’t have made a difference. They had the power to get Wo Fat, and they made the wrong decision, if Danny wants to see it or not. They had more firepower and were in the better position than Wo Fat. Aborting was wrong. And that is something Steve has to come to terms with, and Danny seems totally blind to the fact that they screwed up. He is pretty big on excuses and talking until he believes what he’s saying.

Anyway, I loved that Denning came to clear the air, and apologize. And that Danny won his case. This was truly a great ending. Just enjoy the pictures. Guess I got a little overboard with this episode. So many absolutely glorious pictures.

Oh, and one more thing, thank you Global for again giving us a lot of this episode without the logo. I greatly appreciate it.

Well, I guess all there is left now is the verdict.

Storyline: I truly enjoyed this one. Wo Fat trying to get some of his earlier power back, and  a murder mystery, kidnapping, and corrupt Politicians. I truly liked how everything came together and how everything was slowly revealed. For me a solid A.

Action: Except for any hand to hand, this one had it all. And again, Steve flying a helicopter. Seeing that makes up for everything. But actually, they didn’t even need to make up for anything at all. This was an A for sure.

Guest-Star: This is a category that won’t live past this episode, just because guest stars are unimportant in my eyes. If one makes an appearance, I will pick this up again.

Fun factor: Well, not really much fun, except maybe before the court started.

Awe-factor: Can they be any better than before the court, or at the end? I loved them. YES, I can love them together, no matter that I shred Danny to pieces from time to time. I love them together, but not him alone. It’s just how it is.

Steve-Awesomeness: Oh my goodness. That man in a uniform is beyond words. And we had not only that, no he was behind the stick again. And I just LOVE him brooding. I could watch that for hours. So, this was just awesome with a capital A.

Danny-bearableness: This was the episode where I could barely stand him, and in other scenes loved him. But sadly, barely stand him out weighted this time. Sorry, Danny, lost a lot of points with me. No matter the cute beginning and the great ending.

Support group: Where is Max? And please find something to do for Catherine. Pronto. She’s a regular now; I like to see her regularly. If you can’t find anything legit for her to do on the show, besides lending technical equipment, then show her in other ways. Hell, she has a boyfriend. I would be happy to see them in the shower, in bed, in the ocean, hell, having lunch together. That shouldn’t be so hard. She could even bring lunch for all of them. Spend a few minutes, listen to their case and leave. But show her!

Personal Enjoyment: I LOVED this episode. From start to finish. There is always stuff in every episode that I will question. But even my ranting about Danny, or plot holes, or whatever, very seldom lessens my enjoyment. And this one I enjoyed immensely. No question about the verdict here. Absolut A.

Oh boy. Now, after this is done I like to hear what you thought about this episode. Or any of my ramblings.
